introducing
The Artist
I come from a lineage of artistic practice, where skill, patience, and attention to detail have been cultivated across generations. From an early age, I engaged deeply with fiber and textile techniques, learning to shape material through labor, rhythm, and intuition. These formative experiences continue to inform my work, where every stitch and structure becomes a meditation on form, memory, and meaning.
“More importantly, I consider myself a student of art.”
Monica Filotas is an international contemporary artist whose practice centers on fiber-based sculpture and material investigation.
With a background in Industrial Design and early professional experiences at the Museum of Modern Art, her work is informed by a strong understanding of form, structure, and spatial relationships.
Her practice has been shaped by sustained international experience across the Americas, Africa, and Europe, positioning fiber as a rigorous medium within contemporary sculptural discourse.

GLobal ARTistic influences
Throughout my life, I have eagerly studied knitting, textiles, and all kinds of weaves. I was fortunate to combine my love of knitting with my passion for travel. This has taken me across the world to five continents, learning from the art of knitting across various cultures, methods, techniques, processes, and materials. Bringing this altogether, I continuously try to pair cultural expression and specialty materials in my work with the intent of evoking emotional reaction in my audience.
